Traffic could be slowing down even further in the Irish capital.
The Irish Times is reporting that Dublin City Council have initiated plans to cut the speed limit to 30km/h in the city centre and suburbs.
The council is seeking public suggestions on roads that should see a decrease in speed limits.
In 2011, a speed limit of 30km/h has existed between Bolton Street on the north side and St. Stephen’s Green on the south side, and between Church Street in the west to Gardiner Street and Dawson Street to the east.
Now, it’s being suggested that a massive expansion of that zone will be increased to almost all roads and streets that are covered by Dublin City Council and the four other Dublin local authorities.
According to the report and allowing for public consultation, the next phase will start in 2017 and take in Sandymount, Crumlin, Drimnagh, Raheny, as well as parts of Cabra, Phibsborough, Coolock, Glasnevin and Drumcondra.
A limit of 80km/h will exist only on the Chapelizod bypass as far as Con Colbert Road, on parts of the Santry bypass and on the Dublin Port Tunnel.
A 60km/h limit will be set on a number of other main roads, including the Stillorgan dual-carriageway, the Finglas bypass, the Malahide Road, Howth Road, Naas Road and Long Mile Road.
