South Dublin is getting a new town that will house thousands of people

Carl Kinsella

The sound of progress.

The green light has been given for two new parks in South Dublin that will mark the first step in the construction of a new town that will support over 7,000 people at first – and eventually thousands more.

The two new parks are being developed in Cherrywood, which borders Loughlinstown and Rathmichael. The parks are expected to include several amenities, including all-weather sports pitches and tennis courts.

The parks will be named Tully Park and Beckett Park. Plans have already begun for a third park, though permission is yet to be granted.

In order to supporter the new town, 5.4km of roads are also expected to be laid down. A new shopping centre in the area is also in the pipeline, and is expected to provide over 1000 jobs according to The Journal.
