VIDEO: A former leader of the Ku Klux Klan is running for the US Senate

Carl Kinsella

Is this what one might call “The Donald Trump effect”?

David Duke, a former “Grand Wizard” of the notorious race-hate group the Ku Klux Klan, has announced his intention to run for the United States senate in his home state of Louisiana.

Duke has been an avid and vocal supporter of Donald Trump, though Trump has pretended that he doesn’t know who Duke is on at least one occasion – implying that he is somewhat embarrassed to have the support of the former Klansman.

Duke posted a video today announcing his intention to run for Senate in a state where he has previously held the office of Congressman. It doesn’t not specify whether or not he is running with any party, though it is most likely he is running as an independent.

The video can be watched in its entirety below.

The 2016 senate races will take place on November 8 of this year, alongside the presidential race where Donald Trump will take on Hillary Clinton.
