Hillary Clinton accepts Democratic nomination; slams Donald Trump’s warnings

Tony Cuddihy

Hillary Clinton has accepted the Democratic nomination to be the next President of the United States of America.

The 68-year-old gave a well received speech at the Democratic National Convention in the early hours of the morning, in which she insisted she would, “be a president for Democrats, Republicans, and Independents.

“For the struggling, the striving and the successful. For those who vote for me and those who don’t. For all Americans.”

She also acknowledged that her concentration on policy over her public image had left some people cold, admitting, “some people just don’t know what to make of me.”

“The truth is, through all of these years of public service, the service part has always come easier to me than the public part.”

Crucially, she attacked Donald Trump’s campaign of fear and insisted that his apocalyptic view of the future was strongly at odds with the needs of the American people.

“He wants to divide us from the rest of the world and from each other,” Clinton said.

She also mocked Trump’s claims that he was the only person who could ‘fix’ America by separating the country from its allies and neighbours.

“He’s taken the Republican Party a long way from ‘Morning in America’ to midnight in America. He wants us to fear the future and fear each other.”

Trump, of course, used Twitter to hit back.
