According to the most recent Census data, there are no less that 39.6million American people who count themselves as ‘of Irish descent’.
A new gif, put together by the Pew Research Centre, shows the various states where Irish immigrants have been most prevalent since 1850.
Ireland’s domination of states disappears after the turn of the century as Germany begins to feature more strongly and as 2000 approaches, Mexico begins to dominate with very few exceptions.
No states are currently dominated by Ireland, which is probably just as well… Lest we come to the attention of a certain blond-haired fellow with ill-intentions for immigrants.
