We’ve all got at least one friend with absolutely abysmal taste in movies.
In fact, it’s often enough that we’ll get talked into seeing a patently rubbish outing – laughing at just how poorly written, directed and performed the whole shambles is. It’s cathartic. It’s exactly why The Room is such a cultural phenomenon.
Why do we put ourselves through it? Apparently, people who make more time for garbage films are more analytical – as revealed in a study by the Max Planck Institute for Empirical Aesthetics.

The research found that people who tend to watch bad films (usually defined by cheapness) have a keener interest in “analyses of production values, dialogue and plot structure.”
So the next time you wonder why the missus is insisting you watch something with a one-star rating on Netflix, just remember that it’s because she’s a genius and it’ll be good for your brain.
