Gibson couldn’t be any happier when filming in Ireland.
Ever since his breakthrough performance in George Miller’s post-apocalyptic masterpiece Mad Max, Mel Gibson has become one of the most famous faces on the planet and he’s back with a new film, the gritty actioner Blood Father.
It has been two years since we last saw the Oscar winner on the big screen, but Gibson is back and this role seems like it was tailor made for him.
In Blood Father, Gibson plays John link, an ex-con that’s forced to reunite with his estranged wayward 17-year old daughter as he bids to to protect her from drug dealers who are trying to kill her.
Jean-François Richet is the director on this one, he made the brilliant Mesrine films, and the action is gritty, cerebral and tough as nails. The character suits Gibson perfectly and we got a chance to talk with the Oscar winner about the role and more.
It has been over 20 years since Braveheart was filmed in Ireland and Gibson was more than happy to share some memories with JOE’s Paul Moore about the time that he spent filming here, along with some news about his upcoming feature, WW2 drama Hacksaw Ridge.
Take a look.
