Big news breaking from The Washington Post.
A CIA report has discovered that Russia interfered in last month’s US presidential election with the aim of helping Donald Trump win the White House.
In a report that was published by The Washington Post, intelligence agencies have identified individuals with connections to the Russian government who provided WikiLeaks with thousands of hacked emails from the Democratic National Committee and others, including Hillary Clinton’s campaign chairman, according to U.S. officials.
The news comes in the wake of President Obama ordering a review of all cyberattacks during the 2016 election cycle, as Congress continues to investigate the extent of Russian interference in the election process.
“It is the assessment of the intelligence community that Russia’s goal here was to favor one candidate over the other, to help Trump get elected. That’s the consensus view”, said a senior U.S. official briefed on an intelligence presentation that was made to U.S. senators.
The president-elect has continued to deny any Russian involvement.
“These are the same people that said Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction. The election ended a long time ago in one of the biggest Electoral College victories in history. It’s now time to move on and ‘Make America Great Again.'”, Trump’s transition team said in a statement on Friday.
