Break out the hot water bottles, it’s going to get cold tonight

Alan Loughnane

Hot whiskeys, anyone?

After a period of mild weather over the last five or six days, temperatures will take somewhat of a downturn over the coming days as we get the tail end of a cold weather system currently hitting southern Europe.

It has caused wintery conditions and heavy snow in Spain but thankfully, we will avoid the majority of the system with the only effect being a slight dip in temperatures, particularly on Friday night and Saturday morning.

Temperatures overnight could sink as low as -3 or -4 degrees with sharp ground frost across the country, but it will not be as severe in places with cloud cover.

Temperatures today will be relatively mild reaching 8-9 degrees in places and any cloudy patches should clear to sunshine throughout the afternoon.

Met Eireann have also said that there could be sharp or severe frost on Saturday night and Sunday night.

Saturday will begin chilly with temperatures rising to between 4 and 7 degrees throughout the day with the risk of some mist and rain in places.
