Dublin hotel goes into receivership following 2016 shooting

JOE

The Regency Hotel in Whitehall, Dublin has gone into receivership following the widely publicised shooting of David Byrne in February 2016.

Byrne was fatally wounded when four men entered the hotel during a weigh-in for a boxing event and began firing. The Irish Sun has reported that since the attack, the hotel has seen many of its major bookings cancelled and has struggled to drum up business.

Despite the insurance payment received by the hotel following the shooting, it appears as though the Regency has fallen into receivership.

The attack was the first in a year that saw several gangland-related fatalities on the streets of Dublin. The increased tension saw several more killed, as well as allocation of several million in government funding for the Gardaí to deal with the threat of gun violence.

As of 2017, there is one man in custody for the murder of David Byrne.
