An investigation is underway.

An investigation is underway after allegations were made that a member of the Gardaí filmed the arrest of a woman in Dublin just days before she took her own life.

The video was allegedly published on Facebook of the woman who walked naked down a busy street in the capital.

According the The Sun, the woman had been suffering from depression and had was receiving treatment for drug addiction when she was arrested.

It’s alleged that a member of the Gardaí recorded CCTV footage of the arrest on their phone before sharing it on WhatsApp, which culminated in it ending up on Facebook and being viewed over 100,000 times before it was removed.

The woman died by suicide just days later.

The Garda Ombudsman Commission has said that an investigation into the conduct of Gardaí in relation to the woman is underway.

“GSOC received a referral from the Garda Siochana in relation to this matter.

“They must refer any matter that appears to indicate that the conduct of a member of the Garda Siochana may have resulted in the death of, or serious harm to, a person so that it can be investigated independently.

“GSOC is undertaking an investigation into the conduct of gardai in relation to this woman before her tragic death.”
