Met Éireann have issued two separate weather warnings and half the country will be affected

Not for the first time, the west is going to get the worst of it.

Best bring a brolly if you’re venturing outside in the next couple of days.

We should have seen it coming after the fairly miserable weather forecast for this week, but it’s going to get so bad in places that Met Éireann have seen fit to issue two separate weather warnings.

A status yellow rainfall warning for Cork and Kerry was issued by Met Éireann at 1pm on Tuesday afternoon and it was followed by another rainfall warning for Kilkenny, Donegal, Clare, Limerick, Tipperary, Waterford and the entire province of Connacht less than half an hour later.

Both warnings are predicting rainfall accumulations of between 30mm and 50mm over a 24-period between 9pm on Tuesday and 9pm on Wednesday evening; Met Éireann also warned that higher accumulations are possible in hilly and mountainous areas in Cork and Kerry.

The weather warnings come hot on the heels of a forecast for gusty southeast winds in Atlantic coastal areas on Tuesday afternoon and the risk of spot flooding in places on Wednesday.

After a promising start on Thursday, wind and rain will return, particularly to western counties, which could be affected by thundery showers on Friday while the rest of the country enjoys some welcome dry and sunny spells.
