Don’t get caught out…

Some 155,000 people are set to be affected by a strike by Irish Rail workers on Tuesday, with even more strikes planned in the run up to Christmas.

Further industrial action is planned by trade unions on the following dates:

  • Tuesday, November 7
  • Tuesday, November 14 (includes Ireland v Denmark World Cup Play-off at Lansdowne Road)
  • Thursday, November 23
  • Friday, December 8

The strikes are expected to cost Irish Rail in the region of €900,000.

For those within the city, Dublin Bus announced that they would be operating their full fleet as normal during the morning and evening but advised customers that services are set to be far busier on Wednesday than usual so to plan your journey accordingly.

Luas and Bus Eireann also warned customers of the increased pressure on their services on Tuesday.

Tickets bought for Irish Rail will not be accepted on other transport services during the strikes with the three mentioned above stating it’s not their position to honour Irish Rail tickets on their services during this period of industrial action.

If you’ve booked to travel on Irish Rail during these dates, it will cancel your booking and you will be automatically refunded seven days prior to your travel date. They do advise that it may take a few days for your bank to process the transaction.

Monthly or annual ticket refunds for the dates will be processed at the end of the industrial action and there’ll be a dedicated page created for online customers to apply for a refund.

Irish Rail workers want a 3.75% a year pay rise over three years in line with recent wage increases secured by Luas and Dublin Bus workers.

Talks between unions and company management at the Workplace Relations Commission last month ended without agreement with unions then voting in favour of industrial action.
