A Status Yellow rainfall weather warning has been issued by Met Éireann for Galway, Mayo, Clare, Cork and Kerry.

The warning was issued on Thursday afternoon and is valid from Friday, 12 January at 3pm until Saturday, 13 January at 12pm.

Heavy rain is set to edge in slowly in from the Atlantic during the afternoon, with top temperatures of 810 degrees forecast. Met Éireann have warned, however, that temperatures will feel far colder in the strong and gusty southeasterly wind.

Lows of -1 degrees are also forecast for much of Munster tonight, with frost expected on Friday morning’s roads.

The warning follows a fog warning issued for the entire country earlier on Thursday, as well as an extension of the original warning to continue until Friday.

AA Roadwatch has warned Irish road-users to make use of fog lights when necessary.

As for driver safety in areas of flooding, AA Roadwatch urges drivers to: ”Reduce your speed and keep a safe distance from the vehicle in front. Drivers should take it easy and if the steering does become unresponsive when driving in heavy rain, ease off the accelerator and slow down gradually.”
