Great news on the jobs front…

Go-Ahead Ireland, a private bus company, today announced the creation of 425 new jobs and an €8.5 million investment in its operation here.

The roles will be varied and will include up to 350 bus drivers as well as engineers, maintenance support, mechanics, planners, operational and administrative personnel.

Go-Ahead Ireland have won an NTA contract and therefore most of the roles will be for bus drivers along with the promise to cover the cost of bus driver training and acquiring the necessary D licence . This is thought to be in the region €4,000.

When the new bus drivers and maintenance support colleagues are recruited, they will be working on existing routes, beginning in September 2018 and completing by the end January 2019.

Speaking on the announcement, Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport Shane Ross said, “These 425 new jobs and the €8.5m investment being made by Go-Ahead Ireland is a very significant development for public transport in Ireland.  I welcome both.

“As public transport usage increases the Partnership Government remains committed to working with experienced companies who understand the sector and are eager to invest in its future to the benefit of all.”

The €8.5 million investment will be spread across driver training, depot fit out and mobilisation.
