The Coast Guard have been searching for 29 hours.

ABC are reporting that the US Coast Guard has suspended the search for a missing Irishman who was reported missing after taking a late-night swim at Long Island on Monday.

The Limerick Leader have reported that the 30-year-old man is from Limerick and that the local authorities were vigorously searching for him since he disappeared off the coast of Long Beach Boulevard at 2 a.m on Monday morning.

The Coast Guard searched 650 miles during a 29-hour search.

“The water was very bad last night. No one should’ve gone in last night, especially with no lifeguards there. Again. Which, we have that problem, unfortunately,” said Paul Gillespie, Long Beach Patrol Chief.

The Department of Foreign Affairs said it “cannot comment on individual consular cases”.
