Local TD calls it ‘pure thuggery’ that’s not wanted in the community.
Limerick TD Niall Collins has said that An Garda Siochána are investigating a vicious pre-arranged bare-knuckle boxing match that took place last Friday in the car park outside a church in Croom, Limerick.
The incident occurred at 9pm and, aside from those people that were actually fighting, 100 ‘referees’ were also in attendance as they watched the scenes of ‘outrageous thuggery’, the term that Collins used to describe the footage that has now been seen by more than 17,000 people.
In an interview with the radio station Live95, the TD said: “I would say to the people who organised this, please don’t do this again. The damage that it’s doing to the reputation of Croom and the people of Limerick has the potential to be immense.”
The Limerick Leader also conducted their own interview with the TD where he elaborated on the issue.
“It’s outrageous thuggery on display in Croom, and it’s a huge insult to the local community that this took place in broad daylight in the shadow of the church. Members of the community in Croom have been in touch with me and they are completely angered,” he said.
After calling for the local Gardai to investigate the issue further, Collins’ pleas have now been successful.
An Garda Siochana are investigating this incident. I spoke about this today on Limerick’s Live 95FM. This thuggery is wrong plain and simple the people of Croom and Limerick don’t want this happening in their community.https://t.co/pFGFnY3n9f
