Another Dragon’s Den businessman is running for President

He’s the latest personality from the show to throw his name into the race.

Businessman Peter Casey has announced his intention to seek a nomination in the upcoming presidential election.

In doing so, he becomes the third star of Ireland’s Dragons’ Den show to join the race – following Sean Gallagher and Gavin Duffy.

Casey joins a number of candidates vying to replace President Michael D Higgins in Áras an Uachtaráín, with journalist Gemma O’Doherty, artist Kevin Sharkey, co-founder of Pieta House Joan Freeman, Eamon Ó’Cuív, and a potential mystery Sinn Féin candidate all throwing their hat in the ring.

While President Higgins can nominate himself, the other candidates need the support of 20 Oireachtas members or four local authorities to secure a nomination on the ballot.

The election will be held on 26 October, with nominations closing a month beforehand.
