Waterford Council has advised people to avoid the area.
The public is being instructed to avoid the Waterford quays in the city’s centre over an apparent security alert.
Traffic around the area has been re-routed which has caused significant build-up Bridge St, the Quays, Bilberry, Sallypark and Ferrybank.
While the exact nature of the security alert is unclear, reports from the scene suggest that the Gardaí are doing a security sweep of the area.
Treacy’s Hotel, as well as several of the surrounding buildings, have been evacuated.
Gardaí have alerted us to an incident on the Quay towards the Bridge St area. Traffic backup is considerable. Please avoid the area if you can. #waterford
