The director of Dog Soldiers and Game of Thrones is behind this.
In terms of Guillermo del Toro’s most beloved and critically acclaimed films, the two Hellboy features a rare oddity.
To begin with, they’re absolutely beautiful to look at with the Mexican director’s unique eye for the gothic, surreal and otherworldly mixing perfectly with Mike Mignola’s demonic comic-book hero.
Truth be told, we’ve a massive spot for the two films – hell, the finale to The Golden Army took place in Ireland – but despite the fact they’ve both got a strong cult-following, neither film set the world alight at the box-office.
Granted, they did ok but they weren’t spectacular.
This being said, there’s still some cinematic life yet in ‘Big Red’ because the Beast of the Apocalypse and his massive Right Hand of Doom are returning.
Stranger Things star David Harbour has replaced Ron Perlman in the lead role and we’ve just been treated to out first official image.
While Del Toro isn’t directing this film, we’ve got confidence that Neil Marshall can create something to rival the first two instalments. After all, he’s the man that directed Dog Soldiers, Centurion and two of the greatest episodes in the history of Game of Thrones, Blackwater and The Watchers on the Wall.
Aside from Harbour, we’re fully behind the producers casting Deadwood and John Wick star Ian McShane as Hellboy’s adoptive human father, Professor Bruttenholm.
In terms of the plot, nothing official has been announced yet but it’s widely regarded that the new adventure will see Hellboy battling against an ancient sorceress who wants revenge against humankind.
As for the caption, well, it’s legendary as f**k.
Hellboy is set to hit cinemas on 12 April, 2019.
