Gardaí have confirmed that a controlled explosion was carried out in Dublin city centre on Thursday afternoon.
The Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team carried out the controlled explosion on a suspect device in Smithfield.
This follows an incident that occurred in the area when a man reportedly held a judge hostage at gunpoint in court.
The device in question has now been removed from the scene for further examination.
A man has been arrested in connection with the incident and remains in Garda custody.
All court sittings have resumed and investigations are continuing.
The Luas red line has re-opened, though passengers are advised to anticipate delays as the situation returns to normal.
