Neil Robertson became the first Australian to lift the famous trophy at the World Snooker Championship at the Crubible in Sheffield, defeating Graeme Dott 18-13 early Tuesday morning.
Robertson has written his name into the history books with his title crown and has now jumped up to number two in the world.
The Australian had trailed Dott 5-3 but once he assumed the lead the eventual Champion did not relinquish his lead.
Only one century was made, by Dott, in a final which finished at nearly 1am Tuesday morning.
The Melbourne-born player delighted thousands of his followers as they watched the 28-year-old win his fifth ranking title.
“I seriously can’t believe it. In my last-16 match I was 11-5 down to Martin Gould and after my (semi-final) match with Ali Carter I was really disappointed I couldn’t have any of my family over for the final.†said the £250,000 winner.
