A man in his 50s has died after getting into difficulty while swimming in Dublin

Gardaí responded to the incident on Sunday afternoon.

A man aged in his late 50s has passed away after getting into difficulty while swimming in Dublin on Sunday afternoon (29 September).

At approximately 2.30pm, Gardaí responded to an incident that took place at the Forty Foot in Dún Laoghaire.

The man is said to have gotten into difficulties in the water, prompting a number of people to come to his assistance.

Upon the arrival of the Irish Coast Guard and additional emergency services, the injured man was taken to Sandy Cove Point where he was removed by ambulance to St. Vincent’s Hospital.

He subsequently passed away later on Sunday afternoon.

A file will be prepared for the Coroner’s Court and investigations are ongoing.
