Tributes have been paid to a young hurler from Kilkenny who tragically lost his life in a road traffic collision over the weekend.
Eugene Aylward died in the early hours of Saturday morning when the car he was driving left the road and struck a wall.
Aylward was a member of the Ballyhale Shamrock senior hurling panel and was described by the club as a “very popular young man”.
In a statement, the club said: “Ballyhale Shamrocks GAA extends its deepest condolences to both the Aylward and Cullen families on the devastating loss of their son Eugene.
“As part of our Senior panel Eugene was a very popular young man and a friend to everyone who was lucky enough to have known him.”
A female passenger was removed to University Hospital Waterford with serious injuries following the crash.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Thomastown Garda Station 056-7754150 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.

He will repose at his residence (Vicars Lane, Ballyhale) from 2pm on Monday.
His funeral will take place at 11am on Tuesday in St Martin of Tours Church, Ballyhale.
