A mix of the serial killer and haunted house genres. This looks very strong.
Given the fact that The Grudge is already a remake of a beloved J-horror – that would be Ju-On: The Grudge – not even the most ardent fan of the original Hollywood version could be mad that it’s being remade.
Aside from the fact that it’s not an original property, if we’re being honest, the reboot which starred Sarah Michelle Gellar was just grand.
It wasn’t terrible, it wasn’t fantastic, it had a few decent scares. It was grand.
However, we’re intrigued about the reboot because while it’s adhering to the classic premise of the saga – an angry spirit haunts a house – the updated version seems to be incorporating elements of the serial killer genre too, mainly Se7en and True Detective.
To make things even better, the early word on this one is extremely positive with plenty of people praising Nicolas Pesce’s new take on the material.
To sweeten the deal, horror maestro Sam Raimi (The Evil Dead, Drag Me To Hell) is producing this new take too.
All things considered, we’re digging it.
Cast: Andrea Riseborough, Demián Bichir, John Cho, Betty Gilpin, Lin Shaye and Jacki Weaver.

Enjoy!
