A bar in New Delhi is selling clean air at a price, because we live in hell

Carl Kinsella

Kind of like an episode of Black Mirror, but actually real.

India’s capital city of New Delhi is currently in a state of emergency over pollution levels. India has the world’s highest death rate from respiratory illness, and poor quality air irreversibly damages the lungs of 2.2 million or 50 percent of all children.

Pollution has reached such levels that schools have been forced to close twice in the past week.

A private company is now capitalising on this state of affairs by selling clean air to customers at price. OxyPure Oxygen Bar in New Delhi charges customers for a 15-minute session to inhale a cocktail of oxygen in different flavours.

EuroNews have shared a video of how things work inside the establishment, showing customers going into take a seat before literally just holding contraptions up to their faces and breathing in. The air comes in different flavours, including Lemongrass and Eucalyptus.

A 15 minute session currently costs 500 rupees, or €6.31.
