UPDATED: Search stood down for missing 86-year-old man

Paddy Rainsford was last seen on Wednesday evening.

Gardaí have officially stood down the search for missing man Paddy Rainsford following the discovery of a body in the Ballina area of Tipperary.

Gardaí are working closely with the family at this tragic time.

Gardaí are seeking assistance from the public in locating 86-year-old Paddy Rainsford.

Rainsford was last seen leaving his home at Annagh, Lisnagry, Limerick at 7.30pm on Wednesday 18 December.

He was driving a dark blue Skoda Rapid with a registration number of 161L98.

Gardaí have noted that Rainsford’s intention was to drive to the Birdhill / Boher area of north Tipperary to play cards but he never arrived.

He is described as being 5′ 10″ in height and of medium build with grey hair and grey/blue eyes.

Rainsford’s family and An Garda Síochána have concerns regarding his welfare as he suffers from a medical condition.

Anyone who may have seen Rainsford or has information regarding his whereabouts is asked to make contact with Newport Garda Station on 061 378 102.
