Mayo have been forced to cancel their training trip to Portugal as they were told they would have been breaching GAA regulations.

Mayo were due to head off on 9 May and return six days later, but all counties received a letter from Croke Park last Friday informing them of the legislation in relation to training breaks.

“Senior inter-county panels should not be permitted to go on training weekends or training of longer duration after the final of their respective National League has been played except during the 13 days prior to the All-Ireland senior final,” states rule 6.23b.

The GAA have added that the rule is in place to ensure that club fixtures were not disturbed as a result of county teams jetting off on training camps in the middle of the club calendar.
