This is the highest daily death toll in Ireland so far.
44 people who had been diagnosed with Covid-19 in Ireland have died in the past 24 hours.
As well as this, a further 709 cases of the deadly virus were confirmed in Ireland.
597 more confirmed cases of coronavirus have been diagnosed here, with a further 112 from German labs. The total number of cases in Ireland is now 13,980.
The median age of today’s reported deaths is 84
Ireland’s death toll now stands at 530.
In 81% of the deaths that have occurred, it is believed that the patient had an underlying medical condition.
Over this weekend, a survey will be conducted among hospitals and long-term residential centers, to enhance the information that is already available in relation to this topic.
There will also be an increased testing of staff who are working in nursing homes.
Speaking on Friday night, Chief Medical Officer Doctor Tony Holohan said “We’re not recommending that people take people from nursing homes at this moment in time… The work that we are doing is focused on trying to provide as much protection from this virus as we can.”
It was then said that the best place for any elderly person who is in a nursing home to be, is in that nursing home.
