After the craziness of last weekend, there’s a bit of a lull in sporting action over the next couple of days, but still enough to keep us ticking over with the World Cup, the Champions League and Heineken Cup finals and the GAA Championships just around the corner.
The Premier League comes to an end on Sunday with the title still up for grabs even though Chelsea are well in the driving seat. All the provinces are in Magners League action and what is commonly known as the ‘fifth major’, the Player’s Championship, is on at the famous Sawgrass course.
And it’s at Sawgrass where we’ll take our first punt of the weekend. After day one, Lee Westwood is a shot off the pace at -5 and the portly Englishman has been in fine fettle for quite a while now. He deserves a title and frankly we think he’s a good shot to come out on top this weekend at 7/1.
In the Premier League, we reckon it will be a stroll for Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, especially given the awful form shown by Wigan away from the DW this season. Frank Lampard has been in sterling form for the Blues of late, scoring his 21st Premier League goal against Liverpool last weekend. We reckon he can grab a couple of more on Sunday and you can back him to do just that. He’s 16/5 to score two or more goals against Wigan.
The Spanish Grand Prix is on Sunday afternoon and with two wins already under his belt this season, World Champion Jenson Button is a pretty generous 9/1 to make it three from five races in Barcelona.
Break the Bookie
This is the fun part of our weekend fancies where we give you some outrageous bets. As insane as they sound, a simple tenner could earn you massive money if all three come good. Let’s get started.
Back to the Premiership and to the other big game of the day at Old Trafford. With Chelsea looking set to stroll to the title and United minds drifting towards summer holidays, what chance of Stoke causing an upset at the Theatre of Dreams. You can get them to be leading at half time and full time at 66/1.
Sticking with the Premiership, nerves are bound to be a problem at Stamford Bridge, even though we think they’ll overcome them in the end. We’re really going out on a limb here but it’s the last day of the season and anything can happen. Paul Scharner, he of the ridiculous hairdo last weekend, is 25/1 to score first on Sunday. It’s his last game for the club, can’t we dare to dream?
Your return from the crumpled up ten euro note you found in your back pocket? A cool €17,420. Money in the bank if you ask us.
