Michael Bradley had hoped to go out on a high after seven years at the helm of Connacht. His team travelled north to meet Ulster, in a Magners League clash where pride rather than any real glory was at stake.
Connacht arrived at Ravenhill knowing they faced an almost impossible task if they were to qualify for the Heineken Cup. They needed to win by a margin of more than 66 points – a win that would have been their first in Ulster for 50 years.
But it wasn’t to be, with Ulster recording a convincing 41-10 win.
The home side scored six tries thanks to Danielli, Humphreys, Kyriacou, Whitten, Tuohy and Smith. Loughney managed the sole try by the visitors.
Ulster end their Magners season 8th and Connacht get the wooden spoon.
Worryingly, Ulster’s win was marred when Rory Best suffered a nasty injury which may rule him out of Ireland’s summer tour of Australia and New Zealand.
