The Hurling championship got underway on Saturday with fourteen teams in action in the Ulster Hurling Championship and the Christy Ring Cup. In the Ulster Hurling Championship, there were comfortable wins for Armagh and Tyrone, while Monaghan overcame Fermanagh by two points in a tight encounter in Enniskillen.
Armagh had sixteen points to spare over Donegal in Letterkenny, while Conor Grugan scored 3-8 in Tyrone’s whopping twenty-five point win over Cavan in Omagh.
In the Christy Ring Cup, it took extra time to separate Westmeath and Derry in Mullingar, with the Lake County emerging victorious by a five point margin. Elsewhere, there were wins for Kerry over Derry in Newry and Kildare over Meath in Navan while Wicklow defeated Mayo by four points in Arklow.
