Chelsea have been crowned Premier League 2009/10 champions after an 8-0 demolition of a 10-man Wigan.

Wigan held out for just six minutes before Chelsea opened the scoring through Anelka, who finished after a kind bounce from a free-kick just outside the Wigan box.

It got worse for Wigan when Gary Caldwell was sent off for a challenge inside the area on Frank Lampard. He tucked the penalty away to put his side 2-0 up.

It quickly turned into a rout with Kalou getting the third, Anelka the fourth, Drogba netting three in a row and Ashley Cole getting his name onto the score sheet in extra time.

Drogba’s hat-trick was enough to earn him the Golden Boot, having started the day level on goals with Wayne Rooney.

Wigan meanwhile, will enter the record books for being the only team over to concede more than 80 goals in one season without being relegated.
