The latest figures have been released.

53 new cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed, while no new deaths have been reported.

There has now been a total of 28,813 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Ireland since February.

The death toll from Covid-19 in the Republic of Ireland remains at 1,777.

25 of Monday’s cases are in Dublin, 11 are in Limerick, while the rest are spread across Kildare, Longford, Clare, Cork, Kerry, Laois, Meath, Roscommon, Tipperary and Westmeath.

The Republic of Ireland’s 14-day incidence rate is now 32 cases per 100,000.

Ireland currently has 392 open clusters nationally, 10 newly reported clusters in workplaces, and one in a meat-processing plant.

69 clusters in residential care settings remain open, and 38 in nursing homes.

Speaking of an incident that took place in Killarney over the weekend, acting CMO Ronan Glynn said: “The anger and frustration is understandable… I understand why it grabs the headlines, but none of those things should detract from the reality that the vast, vast majority of people are doing the right thing”

In response to Michael Healy-Rae saying the situation would have been avoided if pubs were open, Glynn said: “I’m not sure that a situation like Killarney could be avoided by having pubs open.”

Earlier on Monday evening, the government confirmed that Kildare’s lockdown restrictions would be lifted with immediate effect.

It said: “There is no longer a rationale for a differentiated approach between Kildare and the rest of the country.”
