Five Covid-19 deaths, 322 new cases confirmed

The latest figures have been released.

Five further Covid-19 deaths have been confirmed, as well as 322 new cases.

There has been a total of 1,922 Covid-related deaths in the Republic of Ireland, as well as 63,048 confirmed cases since the beginning of the pandemic.

96 of Tuesday’s cases are in Dublin, 35 are in Meath, 23 in Cork, 17 in Louth, 16 in Waterford and the remaining 135 cases are spread across 18 other counties.

64% of today’s cases are people under 45 years of age, while the median age is 37 years old.

As of 2pm today, there are 296 Covid-19 patients in hospitals across the country, of which 42 are in ICU.

There has been 14 additional hospitalisations in the past 24 hours.

Speaking on Tuesday, CMO Tony Holohan said: “Due to the efforts of people across Ireland, we are seeing improvements with Covid-19. However, we must remember that maintaining this downward trend is now the most crucial thing.

“The value of our progress depends on continuing the safe behaviour that got us to this position. I urge everyone to keep it up, to ensure these initial trends continue.”

Earlier on Tuesday, Northern Ireland’s Department of Health shared the news that 570 individuals have tested positive for Covid-19 in the past 24 hours.

Sadly, a further six deaths have also been reported up north.
