Ryanair launches new service on app for Covid test results and vaccination certs

Will you go on holiday this summer?

Ryanair has launched a Covid-19 Travel Wallet, as part of its mobile app, which will allow people to upload negative Covid-19 test results, vaccination certs and other documents required to travel.

The airline announced it would be rolling out the feature in its app for customers to hold all their documentation in one place.

Ryanair said it is “confident” the EU’s vaccine rollout programme will see the removal of current travel restrictions in time for the school summer holidays between June and September.

“We are very pleased to launch this Ryanair C-19 Travel Wallet as we prepare for the return of family holidays in Summer ‘21,” Ryanair’s Director of Marketing, Dara Brady said.

“Many Ryanair customers will be taking their first holiday in over a year, adhering to new travel guidelines and this C-19 Travel Wallet allows customers to store all of their Covid documents such as PCR test results, passenger locator forms and vaccine certificates in the one location with zero fuss or paperwork to worry about.”

He added: “We look forward to welcoming our customers and their families back on board in Summer 2021.”

However, the summer is unknown territory when it comes to travelling in the EU due to the relatively slow rollout of vaccines, although hopes still remain it can vaccinate 70% of the population by the end of the summer.

A Politico calculation last week speculated that if the vaccine rollout continues at its current rate, Germany won’t reach the 70% threshold of population until September 2022 and Belgium won’t reach it until July 2023.

Although it should be noted that rollout is expected to increase as more supply becomes available.

Last week, the European Commission said it will present a proposal on creating an EU-wide digital Covid-19 vaccination passport that may allow Europeans to travel more freely over the peak summer holiday period.

President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen revealed the aim of the pass is to provide proof that a person has been vaccinated, results of tests for those who could not get a vaccine yet, and information on a person’s Covid-19 recovery.
