After winning last week’s Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona, Mark Webber has given himself a great chance to make it two wins on the trot by taking pole position for Sunday’s Monaco Grand Prix.
The Red Bull driver was the fastest in qualifying for the third time this season with a time of 1.13.826, just over three tenths of a second quicker than Renault’s Robert Kubica in second.
Tomorrow’s race will be the sixth time a Red Bull driver will begin a race at the front, emphasising their growing influence in the competition this season.
Webber’s Red Bull team-mate Sebastian Vettel will begin the race in third ahead of Ferrari’s Felipe Massa and McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton.
Reigning World Champion Jenson Button will start in eight place on the grid, while Fernando Alonso was unable to take part in qualifying after severely damaging his Ferrari in the first practise session of the day. He will begin Sunday’s race in Monte Carlo at the back of the grid.
