A number of electronic items were also seized by Gardaí.

Gardaí arrested a 41-year-old man in Douglas in Cork on Saturday morning (6 November) reportedly on suspicion of making threats to kill a British MP.

The Irish Times reports that the alleged threats were made against a female Labour MP and that the man arrested is a British national.

The paper also said it is understood that Gardaí were alerted by British police to the suspect, which happened after a person phoned the MP and allegedly threatened to kill her on 18 October.

In a statement to JOE, a Garda spokesperson confirmed that a search warrant was executed on Saturday morning at a residential property in Douglas.

During the course of the search, Gardaí say a number of electronic items were seized and that a 41-year-old man was arrested “on suspicion of making threats against a person from outside of this jurisdiction”.

The man arrested is currently detained for questioning under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at the Bridewell Garda Station.

Gardaí say investigations are ongoing.
