Gardaí have arrested a 19-year-old man after a serious assault in the early hours of Saturday (13 November) left a male in his late teens in a critical condition.
A statement issued by a Garda spokesperson on Saturday evening reads: “Gardaí in Longford investigating the serious assault that occurred in the early hours of this morning on Main Street, Ballymahon have made an arrest.
“A man (19 years) was arrested this afternoon and is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Longford Garda station.
“The injured party remains in a critical condition and investigations are ongoing.”

A male in his late teens is seriously injured following an assault that took place in Longford in the early hours of Saturday (13 November).
The incident occurred on Main Street, Ballymahon at around 3.20am, with the teen suffering serious head injuries.
He was rushed by ambulance to Mullingar Hospital for treatment, a Garda spokesperson said in a statement.
Investigating Gardaí are appealing for anyone who was in the Main Street, Ballymahon area between 2.00am and 4.00am on Saturday to come forward.
They are also calling for anyone with camera footage, including dashcam footage, to make it available to them.
