English referee Howard Webb has been appointed to take charge of Saturday’s Champions League final between Bayern Munich and Inter.

It will be a first Champions League final for Webb, who has taken charge of six other fixtures in the competition this season.

The appointment marks the perfect return to favour for the 38-year-old, who was effectively sent home from Euro 2008 after awarding a controversial penalty to hosts Austria in a group stage encounter with Poland.
