A man has been arrested after an alleged assault on a teenage girl in Cork on Monday (7 February).
In a statement to JOE, Gardaí say they are investigating the alleged assault that occurred at around 1.20pm in Fermoy.
RTÉ reports that the victim was a teenage girl and that her calls for help were heard by two young men who came to her assistance, causing the attacker to flee the scene.
The teenager was later taken to hospital to be treated for her injuries and the incident is understood to have left her traumatised.
According to a Garda spokesperson, a man in his 30s has been arrested in relation to the incident.
He remains detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at Fermoy Garda station.
Investigations into the alleged assault are ongoing.
