One of the car passengers is now in critical condition.
Three people have been seriously injured after a car and an HGV truck collided in Mayo early Wednesday morning (9 February).
Gardaí are at the scene of the crash that occurred on the N5 in Swinford at around 12.25am.
The car and truck collided on the stretch of road between Charlestown and Swinford.
Three occupants of the car were seriously injured during the collision.
A male passenger in his 70s was taken to Mayo University Hospital where his condition is described as critical.
Meanwhile, a female passenger in her 50s was transferred to Beaumont Hospital where her condition is described as serious.
Also, the driver of the car is receiving treatment in Mayo University Hospital for serious but what are understood to be non-life-threatening injuries.
Gardaí are appealing to any person who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.
Any person who was travelling on the N5 between Charlestown and Swinford overnight between midnight and 1.00am and who may have camera footage, including dashcam footage, is asked to make this available to investigating Gardaí.
