Lance Armstrong has come away from yesterday’s crash in the Tour of California without any fractures and will begin preparations for an eighth Tour de France yellow jersey bid in July.
Armstrong sustained a cut under his left eye that required eight stitches and a left elbow contusion during a crash on the race’s fifth stage yesterday.
The 38-year-old American was forced to withdraw from the event but his injuries have been played down as minor following a full examination from the Radio Shack team doctor.
Armstrong, who was accused of doping allegations by teammate Floyd Landis earlier this week, told of his disappointment to be out of the competition.
“It was a shame to have to abandon early and not be able to help (teammate) Levi (Leipheimer) to another victory,” the seven-time Tour de France Champion said.
“It was a relief to learn there were no breaks. I will take a few days to recover and be on the bike as soon as possible,†he added.
Armstrong is expected to race in the Tour of Switzerland which begins on 12 June.
