McDonnell died while trying to prevent the theft of his car.
Two men have been arrested on Wednesday (16 February) in connection with the death of Ian McDonnell in Clondalkin in January.
At around 6.15pm, 23 January, McDonnell was found lying on Robinhood Road with serious life threatening injuries.
Investigations showed that the 50-year-old had attempted to prevent the theft of his car, a grey coloured Volkswagen Passat.
In doing so, he was carried on the bonnet for a distance to where he was discovered.
McDonnell was removed from the scene in a serious condition, and passed away on 28 January.
McDonnell’s car was located on Limekiln Green, Greenhills, Dublin 12, and was recovered for forensic examination.
Another vehicle linked with the incident, a silver coloured Toyota Aqua, was found burned out in Ballinascorney, Tallaght and recovered for examination as well.
Gardaí investigating the incident arrested two men in their 20s.
The men are currently being detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at Garda stations in the South West Dublin area.
Investigations are ongoing.
