Inter Milan 2-0 Bayern Munich
Two goals from Diego Milito helped José Mourinho’s Inter Milan to the third European cup triumph in their history after defeating Bayern Munich in Madrid on Saturday night.
The Argentine striker scored in each half to seal the Champions League for the Nerrazurri to add to the domestic league and cup double already won by the club this season.
Bayern Munich controlled possession for the majority of the opening half, but fell behind after 35 minutes when Wesley Sneijder’s through ball found Milito, who beat Hans Jorg-Butt in the Bayern goal with a lovely chipped finish.
Sneijder missed a glorious chance to put the game beyond doubt before the break but the Dutchman smashed his effort straight at Butt.
Arjen Robben was a constant threat for the German side and he went close to equalising twenty minutes into the second half but his curling effort was brilliantly tipped around the post by Julio Cesar.
Milito ended the game as a contest five minutes later with another wonderful finish after beating compatriot Martin Demichelis on the edge of the box.
Bayern kept battling away in the final stages of the game but never really threatened to breach Cesar’s goal and Inter held on for victory.
It was José Mourinho’s second champions league victory as a manager after his success with Porto in 2004 and represented what it very likely to be his last game in charge of Inter Milan, with speculation increasing in recent weeks that he is set to take charge of Spanish giants Real Madrid next season.
