September looks set to be the best month for Irish cinema goers in years

There are 14 HUGE releases coming over the four weeks of next month.

From huge blockbusters to jumpy horrors, from cutting edge murder-mysteries to old-school romantic comedies, September’s big screen arrivals are absolutely STACKED.

Kicking off with…

THE FORGIVEN – 2 September 

The director of The Guard and Calvary delivers this new drama about a wealthy couple (Ralph Fiennes and Jessica Chastain) on holiday in Morocco, and how a seemingly random accident impacts their lives and everyone around them.

THREE THOUSAND YEARS OF LONGING – 2 September 

George Miller’s first movie since Mad Max: Fury Road deals with a lonely scholar (Tilda Swinton) who encounters a Djinn (Idris Elba), who will grant her any three wishes she wants, in exchange for his freedom.

FALL – 2 September 

Two best friends and adrenaline junkies decide to take on the 2,000 foot climb up an abandoned TV tower. But when they reach the top, the rusted ladder they used to climb it falls away, and they’re left with no apparent way back down…

BLACKBIRD – 2 September 

The one we’ve all been waiting for is finally almost here! Written by, produced by and directed by Michael Flatley, he also plays the lead role: a retired spy who is dragged back into the world of deadly espionage.

SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME – 2 September 

Having already made $1.9 billion at the box office first time around, this extended cut – titled The More Fun Stuff Version – will feature 11 minutes of additional and deleted scenes.

SEE HOW THEY RUN – 9 September 

Saoirse Ronan and Sam Rockwell headline this comedic murder-mystery, which happens to be set on the stage of a big whodunnit in London’s West End.

BODIES BODIES BODIES – 9 September 

A darkly comedic horror about a group of friends who take shelter in their rich friend’s mansion during a hurricane. After a few hours of booze and drugs, one of their party games takes a turn for the worse, and one of the partiers winds up dead. But which one of them is the killer?

CRIMES OF THE FUTURE – 9 September 

Horror maestro David Cronenberg returns to the genre with a bang, bringing along Viggo Mortensen, Kirsten Stewart and Léa Seydoux, set in a world of performance art where audiences arrive to watch live surgeries performed.

TICKET TO PARADISE – 16 September 

An old-school rom-com, with Julia Roberts and George Clooney playing divorced exes, who put their troubles aside in order to work together, and travel to Bali to try to stop their daughter (Kaitlyn Dever) from marrying too young.

MOONAGE DAYDREAM – 16 September 

The director of Kurt Cobain: Montage Of Heck turns his attention to another musical icon, using previously unreleased footage from David Bowie’s personal archives. It is the first film to be officially authorised by Bowie’s estate.

RÓISE & FRANK – 16 September 

An Irish comedy drama, the movie introduces us to Róise (Bríd Ní Neachtain), who has been struggling since the passing of her husband. When a stray dog suddenly arrives and starts following her around, she begins to suspect it might be the reincarnated spirit of her late husband.

DON’T WORRY DARLING – 23 September 

A happy young couple (Florence Pugh and Harry Styles) have their perfect life turned upside down when the wife’s investigations into her husband’s idyllic job begins to reveal cracks in the utopian town they live in.

AVATAR – 23 September 

Ahead of the release of The Way Of Water this December, the first Avatar movie is getting a visually-improved big screen re-release, to reacquaint us with the world of Pandora.

SMILE – 28 September 

This new psychological horror tells the story of a doctor (13 Reasons Why star Sosie Bacon) who witnesses a disturbing event involving one of her own patients, after which her own mind seems to be turning against her.
