Gardaí say the man was “approached by a group of four people and assaulted”.
A man was left seriously injured after being assaulted by a group of people in Laois at the weekend.
The incident occurred at around 1.20am on Sunday (23 October) on Coote Street in Portlaoise.
Gardaí said the man in his 40s was walking along the street at this time when he was “approached by a group of four people and assaulted”.
It is stated that the male was seriously injured during the incident but that his injuries are understood to be non-life-threatening.
He is currently being treated at St James’ Hospital in Dublin.
No arrests have been made in relation to the incident yet and Gardaí are appealing to any person who may have witnessed the assault to contact them.
“Any person who was in the vicinity of Coote Street between 1.20am and 1.30am on Sunday morning, particularly any road users who may have camera footage (including dash cam), is asked to contact investigating Gardaí,” a Garda spokesperson said.
“Anyone with information in relation to this incident is asked to contact Portlaoise Garda Station on 057 867 4100, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.”
