Celtic could to be about to make a dramatic swoop for Ireland supremo Giovanni Trapattoni, it has been reported.
The club is believed to be on the verge of appointing Neil Lennon as club manager but they are expected to stipulate that he will be obliged to work alongside a director of football – and Trapattoni has been hotly tipped to take the role.
The double appointment however, may not be the disaster it might initially appear for Ireland fans as Trap could hold onto his current job as well as working with Celtic.
Lennon has been working as temporary Celts manager since taking over from Tony Mowbray and his record has seen him become hot favourate to take the job on a permanent basis.
The former Northern Ireland star’s bid for the job was further boosted when 500 members of supporter body the Celtic Trust voted unanimously for him to be given the post at a recent meeting.
Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell told the fans, “We are going through a selection process which Neil is fully involved in.
“If we gave him the job because we liked him, that would be the wrong thing to do. If he gets the job, it is because he is the best man for it.â€
Lawwell added that the appointment would be completed “within 10 daysâ€.
