Cork 3-15 – 0-14 Tipperary

Cork confounded the critics by securing a comprehensive victory over Tipperary at Páirc Uí Chaoimh on Sunday afternoon. The Rebels were touted as underdogs going into the clash despite the fact that Tipperary have won only one Munster championship clash at the venue in the last 87 years.

From the off, Cork were the sharper and hungrier outfit and immediately made their intentions known by repeatedly sending high balls in the direction of Aisake Ó hAilpín. The big full forward ended up with a personal tally of 1-1, but numerous other scores came as a direct result of the tactic including two goals, one a penalty, from corner forward Pat Horgan.

Cork’s half back line also played a key role in the victory after being written off in many quarters following the league final defeat to Galway earlier in the month. Despite being second best throughout, Tipperary were only two points behind at the break and were still in the game until Ó hAilpín’s goal with fifteen minutes left on the clock put the game to bed.

Cork cruised to victory thereafter and will now face Limerick in the Munster semi-final in three weeks time.

Offaly 2-26 – Antrim 3-16 (after extra time)

At Parnell Park, Offaly survived a mighty challenge from Antrim in the Leinster hurling championship and eventually emerged winners by seven points after extra time.

The Faithful County trailed by two points in second half injury time, but late efforts from Shane Dooley and Dylan Haden were enough to force the game into extra time, where Joe Dooley’s men comfortably got the better of the Saffrons.

Shane Dooley was Offaly’s top scorer with 1-10 and they will now face Galway in the Leinster semi-final on 20 June.
