Rampage ‘ashamed’ by loss

Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson has expressed his disappointment at losing out to ‘Sugar’ Rashad Evans in the UFC 114 main event on Saturday, saying he was ‘ashamed’ of his performance.

The pair faced off in a fight that fans had been waiting for since the pair appeared as competing coaches in the Ultimate Fighter series.

Jackson was out-classed by his faster opponent and although he almost knocked out Evans late in the third round with a heavy right hand, ‘Sugar’ went on to win every round on points.

Jackson had just come off the back of a long lay-off from fighting after taking a break to pay the part of Mr T. in the new A-Team film.

Jackson felt that his time away from the ring was what proved to be the difference between the fighters on the night: “I’m really ashamed of myself that I fell victim to ring rust,” said Jackson after the fight.

“Emotions had nothing to do with it. I focused really hard and I trained really hard on this fight, but me having this damn movie and everything – I kind of almost regret doing the damn movie now.”

Jackson continued, “[Evans] had a great game plan, and it worked well for him. I’m not a sore loser. That’s why I commended him. We all come for the same cloth. We all put our lives on the line and get in the Octagon and do battle.”
